BUTCHIES REUNION! [25 Jun 2010|03:13pm]

So does anyone remember the Butchies? Best southern Queer band EVER!

Anyway, I have it on good authority that they are playing a REUNION show on July 21 at Cat's Cradle in Carrboro. Tami Hart from Mkng Frndz will be playing, as will locals Pink Flag... They have some free mp3s up on their website and you should check them out.

Also, just in case you forgot how awesome the Butchies are:

Did anyone hear about this Team Dresch reunion tour?
They haven't come to philly have they? I would die if I'd missed them. I would pays so much to see them. I wouldn't have been able to get to new york, so I won't cry about missing that.

kaia's back catalogue [02 Jan 2006|06:16pm]
Hey hey hey

Here's my problem.
I'm in Australia.
Recently discovered Kaia Wilson.
I've got Ladyman by Kaia, 3 & Are We Not Femme by the Butchies, and Captain by Team Dresch, as well as a couple of 7" singles.

And am looking to get more of her work.
My problem is that anywhere I find only has one CD or record. Hence, I'm going to be left with shipping costs exceeding the costs I'm going to pay for the music.
So, my question is - does anyone know of any stores that stock more than just one release?

4.25.2005 HEY EVERYBODY!!! We Butchies, after 7 years of playing music together, have decided to take what we will call a “hiatus”. Here’s the scoop (inside scoop): simply, we’re all ready and desiring to “move on” and pursue other crazy shit in this crazy life. We still love each other and have loved loved loved our experiences and all our fans and in a godly way all our enemies too (not love them as much though). Our last record, Make Yr Life, stands as testament to the place we’re all at individually, and although many of you reading this may feel sad, you should remember that we’re calling it “a day” in the most positive of ways. Looks like we’ll do a few shows throughout the spring, some random ones in the summer, and perhaps more in the fall and that’ll probably be it for a while. As of now it looks like Melissa will be drummer slut and play with all sorts of different folks (eg: Gretchen Phillips), and she’ll pursue her career on SNL, with a plan B of becoming a cloud. Alison has decided to go back to her roots of zoology and is looking to get a PHD and be a SCIENTIST, either that or maybe plan B of becoming an essential oil. Kaia is moving to Portland OR and plans on working at Hooters mostly only because she is currently obsessed with “short shorts” and thinks she’ll look great and trim in orange short shorts. She’s planning on keeping up in musical ventures and her plan B is to become a pair of short shorts. We’ll still keep our website up and running for the time being, and you can contact us directly if you’d like to (see contacts link), we are all relatively flaky in returning emails but we will try plus we love and appreciate hearing from you. Just like the song, we’ve “had the time of our lives” and dirty danced our way across this bizarre country for a damn long time, acquiring new friends and fans along our way. Thank you THANK YOU Thank you for all your love, support, high fives, low fives, gifts, presence, enthusiasm, undergarments, overgarments, hospitality (all those of you who housed/entertained/fed us) and just for being YOU. We have been as grateful to all our fans as y’all have been grateful to us, keep FReAKY QUEeR being yourself loving yourself. Love, Kaia Melissa Alison (aka The Butchies)

"coming out and staying out and being happy and beautiful and productice and positive is not done to prove anything to the straight world, it is to prove something to each other. the most incredible thing about being queer is we can all make a difference. we are all revolutionaries. every time we come out to someone, every time we talk about being queer, every time we hold hands in public, every time we bring a lover home for a holiday, every time we start a business, everytime we break into a new field, every time we make a movie, every time we start a band, every time we play a play, every tme we buy a queer record, every time we write a love song, every time we take control of our own lives and our potential - every time we kiss - it is a revolution!"

Population 1975 [29 Dec 2004|01:59am]

So, uh, this is kinda random. But I figured if anyone could help me, you guys could.

I won't go into the whole story, but basically my friend and I COMPLETELY accidentally clicked on a link to some Butchies lyrics (literally, like, something hit the mouse button or something. We'd never even heard of them) and the song it happened to go to was "Population 1975" and we were looking at the lyrics, and lo and behold right there in the song is our hometown, "Cullman, Alabama". It's a really tiny town. No one knows where it is. And here it was in a song that we clicked completely by accident.

Fate? I think so. So we're really interested. It's been... Maybe a year or so since this happened, and we can't find the song anywhere, including iTunes. So if any of you have it and would like to share it with a couple of chicks from Cullman, AL, then that would be great. Comment here if you'd like to share it with me in some way.

Thanks a million!

[ mood | tired ]

i had to tell someone this and i just found this community which i think is appropriate. on oct. 23rd, i was sitting at the same table as kaia! wtf! and none of the people beside me knew who she was. huh-muh-na-huh! i'm like "do u not know who that is?" they were like, "uh, know." i said, "u haven't heard of the butchies?!" they were like "yeah, but i don't know what they look like."

since no one else was surprised, i thought i was hallucinating or something since i just taught a zine workshop immediately after a long ass drive from richmond,va to durham, nc for the chicks rock tour.

anyway, cuz i'm a geek, i kept finding reasons to get up and walk past her as she waited for her coffee. finally when i decided to say something, she was getting ready to leave with her coffee, as she turned to leave she must have seen my awestruck face cuz she smiled and nodded whatsup! silent screams! silent screams!

how did i not know they were from durham? i am so moving there!

my friend tex is trying to get them to play in richmond, va for a benefit show. keeping my fingers crossed that they'll do the show and i won't flip my shit this time! if yr in richmond, come check out the show at the nanci raygun. nov. 17th!
